How did you get started in the Sign & Graphics industry?

Both myself and my business partner Ian have worked in the Textile industry pretty much all of our working lives, personally I started at 16 years of age in a mill manufacturing fabrics using various machines including Warping, Flat bed knitting and circular knitting.

In 1990 I started in management where both myself and Ian were employed in a large manufacturing company based in Sheffield, Ian was the Production Manager and I was the Works Manager and Buyer. The company manufactured products from start to finish that included engineering, printing, sewing, make up and worldwide despatch. We introduced sublimation in to the manufacturing process via screen very early in the 1990s and as such, my involvement in the testing of various ink and papers was a major part of my role. In 1997 I was approached by a large concern to act as their textile specialist throughout the UK and this was the spark that ignited Sabur. In 1998 I teamed up with Ian to form Sabur; I am the Sa and Ian, the BUR (Sanger/Burton).

Since starting the business, how have things changed across the industry?

Since our formation in 1998 we have seen huge technological advancements in digital printing and since the turn of the millennium it has both developed and grown at a rate that no man could have predicted. I would say that the last ten years have seen the most significant changes, with the development of new head technology seeming to change almost every season. It is hard to believe that we still had a screen stretching department only six years ago, this area has been developed in to part of our show suite that has grown more than five fold in as many years.

What is Sabur Digital’s immediate focus for development?

Sabur as a group have continued to grow over the last decade and with the introduction of both the Mimaki Industrial (UV) product range and the DGI FT range of Textile Printers up to 3.2mt wide we have a product portfolio that should help us to continue in this ever growing and developing industry.

How do you work with a typical customer?

Sell, Support and Service, these three words are key to our continued growth. I know it is a cliché but our customers are more than that, they become partners. I am proud to say that we still have our very first sublimation customer some twenty years later, I believe that this is testament to Sabur as to how we operate as a company.

Where do you see Sabur Digital in 5 years time?

With second generation family members being part of the team in both sales and service I see a bright future for Sabur Digital. One thing that I have learned in business over the last twenty years and my ten years in management prior is that you are only as good as the staff that you work alongside you.

Sabur have invested heavily in recent years to ensure that our staff are fully trained in every aspect of the product that they represent, and every single member of the team is part and parcel to our continued success.

Here's to the next twenty years!
